The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) has advised recently inducted Accounting Technicians to uphold the five fundamental principles of the accounting profession.
During the 60th Association of Accounting Technicians West Africa (AATWA) Induction Ceremony where 828 Associate Accounting Technicians (AATs) were inducted into ICAN, President of ICAN, Chief Davidson Alaribe, emphasised that the induction was a requirement to join a community that maintains high standards of professionalism.
He also highlighted the importance of being part of the 32,000 AATs of the institute under the umbrella of the Association of Accountancy Bodies in West Africa (ABWA).
Alaribe stressed the significance of continuously prioritising Accuracy and Integrity and upholding the highest standard of professionalism, ethics, and integrity in all endeavours.
He also reminded the newly inducted AATs to consistently adhere to the five fundamental principles of the accounting profession - integrity, objectivity, confidentiality, professional behaviour, and professional competence and due care as they progress in their careers.
Furthermore, he emphasised that the Institute is committed to enforcing appropriate professional discipline for any misconduct by Accounting Technicians through their disciplinary mechanism.
Alaribe urged the newly inducted AATs to let the Association’s Code of Ethics, Constitution, and By-Laws be their professional guide as they provide their professional services.
He also encouraged them to remember the advice of Jim Rohn: “You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with” as they embark on their journey as newly qualified ATS Accounting professionals.
