Google alongside some industry key players have reiterated their commitments to back Nigeria's digital economy for expansion.

The commitment was made during the just concluded Nigerian Economic Summit in Lagos, which focused on digital technology and businesses survival amid challenges facing the nation.

The event had participants in the technology space, including the Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, Taiwo Oyedele, and the former CEO of the Nigerian Economic Summit Group, Laoye Jaiyeola and others.

The meeting outlined a roadmap for the continued growth of the country’s digital economy, reflecting a strong commitment from both the public and private sectors to turn challenges into opportunities.

The Chairman of the Presidential Committee, Taiwo Oyedele, said digital transformation should be mobilised within the government as a foundational element.

“I’m a firm believer in working together because the private sector cannot thrive without the support of the public sector. By initiating this dialogue and maintaining momentum, we can achieve a true shift in how Nigeria operates, adopting a digital-first mindset,” he remarked.

The former Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Economic Summit Group, Laoye Jaiyeola, noted that policy formation was only as effective as the effort behind it.

“Over the years, we have seen businesses engage briefly but move on if there’s no immediate solution.”

He declared that the Nigerian Economic Summit Group, through its Digital Economy Policy Commission, provided a platform for the private sector to make meaningful contributions toward advancing digital solutions.

West Africa Director at Google, Olumide Balogun, enthused, “Technology holds the power to transform lives and economies. We believe that by working together—across government, business, and communities—we can unlock the immense potential that Nigeria’s digital economy holds for the future.”
