The Centre for the Promotion of Private Enterprise (CPPE) expressed concern about the potential nationwide protests, stating that they pose significant risks to an already fragile economy.
The director/CEO of LCCI,Dr. Muda Yusuf, warned that if not properly managed, the protests could result in an estimated daily loss of N400 billion.
He emphasized that such a substantial loss would have severe consequences for the country and its citizens, potentially leading to shutdowns and disruptions in key sectors such as trade, manufacturing, entertainment, transportation, logistics, financial services, hospitality, agriculture, aviation, ICT, and construction.
Dr. Yusuf also highlighted the risks to lives, properties, and government assets.
While acknowledging the citizens' right to protest, he urged the protest organizers to work with the police to ensure peaceful and orderly demonstrations.
He stressed that peaceful protests can still effectively convey their message and cautioned against providing a platform for individuals with criminal intentions.
CPPE recommended that the protests be brief, citing the increased likelihood of chaos and anarchy with prolonged demonstrations.
They cautioned against allowing hoodlums and criminal elements to gain momentum during extended protests.
