Lagos State and some areas of Ogun will undergo a power outage lasting 25 days, beginning on July 28, as announced by power distribution companies.
The Association of Nigerian Electricity Distributors (ANED) clarified that this interruption is due to maintenance being executed by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).
Daily electricity supply will be halted for nine hours, from 8 AM to 5 PM, starting Monday.
In a statement on TVC, ANED CEO Sunday Oduntan indicated that the outage will impact all of Lagos and certain parts of Ogun, including Sagamu, Ogijo, and Abeokuta.
The TCN previously communicated that it received approval from the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission and the Nigeria Independent System Operator for critical upgrades to its 330kV lines which deliver large-scale power to Lagos and surrounding areas.
"The upgrade will include the installation of Optical Ground Wire fiber cable on the Omotosho/Ikeja West 330kV transmission line, planned from July 28, 2025, to August 21, 2025, from 8 AM to 5 PM," the TCN reported.
It noted that while power would be restored each evening after daily work, all other circuits will remain active to ensure steady electricity supply to the Lagos area during this period.
"Upon completion, the upgrade will allow for full functionality of the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition system, improving real-time monitoring of the power grid," it was mentioned.
7Oduntan emphasized that the power system will be temporarily shut down for safety during the upgrade process.
In a notice, Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company stated, "Please note that the Transmission Company of Nigeria will perform scheduled maintenance on the Omotosho-Ikeja West 330kV line from Monday, July 28, to Thursday, August 21, 2025, during the hours of 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM daily.
During this time, customers may face intermittent power supply and load shedding as a result of the scheduled TCN outage. We regret any inconvenience this may cause."
Similarly, the Eko Disco released a statement regarding the planned outage to ensure safe execution of work on the Omotosho – Ikeja West 330kV line, with EKEDC advising that the outages will affect its entire service area.
Meanwhile, Oduntan reassured customers that power supply would return to normal within the specified timeframe.
