A lecturer from the Department of Political Science, University of Benin, Dr Charles Eghweree, has called on youths in the country to actively take part in the political activities in the country.
He spoke while delivering a key note address at an event for political science student at the University of Benin.
He said, “I have to urge the youths to take part in politics as failure to do so will allow unqualified people to assume leadership positions. They should not become onlookers in an endeavour they need to be actively involved in.
“For the youths to take their rightful place in the scheme of things and put the country on the right footing, they must ignite and develop their interest in politics,” he added.
He said the Youth can redeem the nation from poverty by registering a political party of their choice and getting their followers.
Earlier, the Project Manager of Frame Democracy, Jafar Mahmud, said that Nigeria, though a democratic nation, still has traces of authoritarianism, which must be corrected.
He said that the organization decided to focus on political science students to help drive the process of educating and sensitizing the youths to be politically inclined with the view of correcting the mistakes of the past leaders, noting that the future of the country rests on the youths shoulders.
