The Nigerian Federal Government has ordered an investigation into the recent train accident in Lagos and has tasked the newly created Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) to unravel the immediate and remote causes of the incident. The Minister of Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika, has assured Nigerians that the agency will proffer solutions to prevent a recurrence of such accidents in the future.
The NSIB was created to replace the Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB) and is mandated to investigate accidents in all modes of transportation, including aviation, marine, and rail. The agency is expected to work closely with relevant stakeholders to maintain and improve safety standards.
In a statement issued by the Minister's Special Assistant on Public Affairs, Dr. James Odaudu, the Minister urged members of the public to cooperate with the agency in carrying out its investigation. The government has expressed its condolences to the families of those who lost their loved ones in the accident and wishes those injured a quick recovery.
The investigation will shed light on the cause of the accident and provide insights into how similar incidents can be prevented in the future. The government's commitment to ensuring the safety of all modes of transportation is commendable, and stakeholders must work together to ensure that safety standards are maintained and improved upon.
