Naca Mourns Late Wigwe, Pays Tribute

The National Agency for the Control of AIDS has paid tribute following the death of Dr Herbert Wigwe and described his death as tragic.

In a press statement released on Wednesday 14 February, NACA noted that the late Wigwe left behind a legacy of dedication and leadership in the fight against HIV/AIDS.

Recall that Wigwe, his wife, Doreen; son Chizi; and a former Group Chairman of Nigerian Exchange Group, Abimbola Ogunbanjo, lost their lives in a helicopter crash.

However,the unfortunate incident occurred in the United States, near a border town between California and Nevada.

The Nigerian Business Coalition against AIDS named him co-chair, a private-sector initiative that helps eradicate HIV/AIDS in Nigeria and support people living with the condition.

He also served as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, of the HIV Trust Fund of Nigeria until his demise.

The Director General of NACA, Dr Gambo Aliyu, said, “It is with heavy hearts that we mourn the passing of Dr. Wigwe,

who left behind a legacy of dedication and leadership in the fight against HIV/AIDS.

“His contributions to the HIV/AIDS cause were invaluable, and his absence will be deeply felt.

“During this difficult time, our thoughts and prayers are with the grieving families and the entire Access Holdings Plc community. May they find strength and solace in the memories of their loved ones.

“NACA stands in solidarity with all those impacted by this loss and remains committed to continuing the vital work in the fight against HIV/AIDS in honor of Dr Wigwe’s enduring legacy.”
