The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has arrested a father who attempted to write the ongoing Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) on behalf of his son.
JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, said on Wednesday, in Kaduna.
He commended the conduct of the 2024 examination, which saw the participation of 1.94 million students.
However, he expressed concern over isolated cases of impersonation and highlighted the challenge posed by individuals possessing multiple National Identity Numbers (NIN), undermining identity verification protocols.
Addressing the prevalence of cheating, Prof. Oloyede emphasized the futility of such actions in light of JAMB's advanced technological surveillance.
He recounted a disturbing instance of parental impersonation, resulting in the detention of both father and son. While refraining from disclosing the state where the incident occurred, Prof. Oloyede underscored the gravity of the consequences, questioning the father's misguided actions.
"The technology is helping us to check that…Across the country, most of the problem we have is impersonation," said Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, JAMB Registrar.
