In celebration of Safer Internet Day, Google has introduced a new family password-sharing feature for its Password Manager tool. Initially launched in beta testing, the feature is now being rolled out to users, as reported by Android Authority.
The Family Sharing feature has started appearing on mobile devices running Google Play Services version 24.20.
Google’s support page details the functionality of this new feature, allowing members of a family group to access shared passwords and other details stored in Google Password Manager.
These shared credentials can be used for logging into websites and apps, provided they are saved in the Password Manager account.
“Phone With this new feature, you can now securely share your passwords with your family group in Google Password Manager. When you share a password, your family members will receive a copy of it in their Google Password Manager, ready to be used,” states the support page.
Currently, this feature is only available on the mobile version of Google Password Manager. However, Google plans to extend it to Chrome on desktops and other devices in the future.
The rollout of the updated Google Play Services is happening gradually and will reach all users in the coming months. This new addition to Google Password Manager is part of Google's ongoing efforts to enhance security and convenience for its users.
