In accordance with its electronic visa policy, the Federal Government will start issuing automated landing and exit cards to foreigners beginning May 1.
The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development in Nigeria, Festus Keyamo, revealed this during a meeting focused on the enforcement and implementation of immigration protocols.
He stated that the objective of this initiative is to enhance national security and improve record management, noting that the cards will be free and processed online.
He elaborated that the first point of contact for travelers would be the airline's boarding desk, where they will be asked for their exit card instead of a boarding card.
He mentioned, "At that moment, your details will be entered, which will indicate where the foreigner entered the country. If it shows that you have overstayed, boarding will be denied, and you will be handed over to immigration to address the issue, which will determine if a fine is warranted based on the severity of the offense and may also blacklist you and revoke your visa."
Additionally, the Minister of Interior, Tunji Ojo, noted that the e-visa system aims to simplify the application process for tourists, business travelers, and other qualified visitors looking to enter Nigeria for short durations.
He indicated that the online platform will enable applicants to fill out their visa applications, upload essential documents like passports, return tickets, and hotel bookings, as well as make secure payments.
