Delta Communities Protests Against Buhari Administration's And Oil Companies' Neglect

POSTED ON April 6, 2023 •   Uncategorized      BY Akinbohun Samuel •   VIEWS 141

Residents of a few communities in Delta State's Warri North Local Government Area have urged the Federal Government, the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), other pertinent agencies, and the oil-producing companies prospecting in the region to address their needs immediately and work to finish all unfinished projects in the area.

The communities include Kolokolo, Eghoro, Usor, Saghara, Ureju, and Ugbo Tosan residents in addition to members of the TISUN group.

In a statement released on Wednesday in Benin city, the capital of Edo State, Comrade David Odeli, the Chairman of the Tisun Management Council, Warri North Local Government, said, "23 years after the establishment of the NDDC, our communities are yet to benefit from critical infrastructural development in the Niger Delta."

The extremely important Koko-Ogheyi-Likki-Lagos road that has not yet been built, the 6 km Tisun-Kolokolo road, and the dredging-canalization are of considerable concern to us, Comrade Odeli stated.

"The Abiugborodo-Eghoro link road and the Benin River bridge work have both been neglected. Among other abandoned initiatives, there was shore protection and land reclamation at Ugborodo and Orere.

Comrade David Odeli added that "Ugborodo and Orere Deleghe in the local government of Warri South West are also affected by this high degree of neglect.

These are all significant oil and gas-producing communities that the government headed by President Muhammadu Buhari, as well as the NDDC and other pertinent intervention agencies, have not yet given attention to.

"To claim that the federal government and other pertinent organizations have failed our people would not be out of place. Life has gotten very challenging.

In the Niger Delta area, "Our communities are the major oil and gas bearing communities and host several OML operations," he said.
