BENUE, Nigeria - To facilitate open discussions between residents of Benue State and President Bola Tinubu, the Government has declared Wednesday, June 18, a holiday.
This decision aims to ensure that residents are present to receive the president and his team upon their arrival in the state.
The announcement was made by the Secretary to the State Government, Deborah Aber, on Tuesday in Makurdi, the state capital.
Aber stated: “This is in honor of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, who is set to visit the state for one day.
The purpose of the visit is to express sympathy to the government and the people due to ongoing security issues.
However, essential service workers such as health personnel, security forces, and bank staff are exempt from this holiday.”
Aber encouraged the residents of Benue to come out in large numbers to welcome the president and his entourage, noting that his visit was postponed from Kaduna in order to express condolences for the attacks that have resulted in over 151 fatalities.
