LAGOS, Nigeria - Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, stated on Thursday that education is the most effective means to unlock youth potential, create opportunities, and build a thriving state.
The governor made this statement during the inauguration of new ultra-modern classroom blocks built by the Lagos State government in collaboration with the Special Committee on the Rehabilitation of Public Schools (SCRPS) at St. Luke Junior Grammar School, Bariga, Mainland Junior Secondary School, Fadeyi, and Euba Junior High School, Mushin, Lagos.
He remarked that this commissioning represents a significant milestone in his administration’s steadfast dedication to enhancing educational infrastructure in the state.
Sanwo-Olu, represented by Commissioner for Transport, Oluwasegun Osiyemi in Bariga, noted that this event is part of a broader initiative, as nine additional schools throughout the state are also being inaugurated this week.
At Fadeyi, the governor, represented by Special Adviser on Tourism, Idris Aregbe, emphasized the ongoing investment by the state government in education. He pointed out the provision of infrastructure, learning tools, and modern materials aimed at creating a conducive environment for learners.
He urged community leaders, parents, and teachers to back the government's educational initiatives and ensure that the new facilities are well-maintained.
The governor also encouraged students to take full advantage of the improved learning environment, stating that the newly commissioned facilities align with the state government’s larger vision of enhancing education and equipping schools with modern infrastructure.
Furthermore, the governor mentioned that Euba Junior School had been grappling with significant issues such as overcrowded classrooms, declining infrastructure, and insufficient facilities.
Represented at the event by his Special Adviser for the Office of Internal Audit, Dr. Oyeyemi Ayoola, Sanwo-Olu affirmed that his administration acted promptly to tackle these challenges, reiterating its commitment to providing a safe, contemporary, and inspiring learning atmosphere.
He underscored the vital role education plays in socio-economic development.
He stated that the newly built facilities are anticipated to markedly improve educational quality while driving community development.
Sanwo-Olu praised the efforts of SCRPS, development partners, and all stakeholders involved, and urged communities to take ownership of the schools, ensuring they continue to function as centers of excellence.
