The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) have held their primary elections in preparation for the upcoming by-election for the House of Representatives in the Garki/Babura Federal Constituency of Jigawa State.
Rocketparrot News reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission has set August 16, 2025, as the date for the by-election, following the death of the constituency member, Isa Dogon Yaro, on May 9, 2024.
The NNPP conducted its primary election on Saturday at the party's local government secretariat in Babura, while the APC held its primary at the Duplex in Babura. Muhammad Gako, the Chief Returning Officer sent by the NNPP, announced Salisu Sabo as the winner after he garnered 114 votes in an unopposed election.
In his acceptance address, Sabo pledged to collaborate with party members and the citizens of Garki/Babura to improve secondary education and urged voters to focus on merit and the quality of candidates capable of addressing their needs. Meanwhile, the APC's primary election saw Rabiu Garki emerge as the party's nominee.
The chairman of the APC Primary Election Committee, Ismaila Gadaka, announced the results, stating that the election was peaceful, free, and fair, with Garki receiving all 110 votes from delegates across the 22 wards in the constituency.
Garki expressed gratitude towards Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi, as well as party leaders and members for their trust in him, promising to prioritize youth employment and job creation to enhance the livelihoods of his constituents if elected.
APC state chairman Aminu Gumel expressed satisfaction with the election process and assured that the party would campaign across all 22 political wards within the constituency, highlighting their candidate's commitment to the APC manifesto and the administration of Governor Umar Namadi.
