The 2015 presidential candidate of the National Conscience Party (NPC), Chief Martin Onovo, has criticized President Bola Tinubu's government, calling it an interim regime and stating that its performance in the first year has been extremely disastrous.
Onovo, currently serving as the Head of Policy Positions at the Movement for Fundamental Change (MFC), stated: "They have failed on all fronts.
He said National security has not improved, with more citizens falling victim to kidnapping and violence by Islamic terrorists across various regions of the country. Even the Nigerian Army has acted unlawfully, destroying the homes of innocent citizens in Enugu State and Delta State.
"The government's sectional appointments and contract awards have further divided the country. Economically, they have caused significant damage, leading to Nigeria's slide from the largest economy in Africa to the fourth largest.
Our GDP has plummeted, inflation and unemployment rates are at unprecedented levels, national debt is soaring, and the Naira has been devalued by about 70% in just one year.
"Corruption has become the main focus of the government. The Lagos Coastal road construction contract is grossly overpriced, marking it as the most corrupt contract in Nigeria's history.
This blatant violation of laws and regulations is a clear display of lawlessness and impunity.
"Jagaban Tinubu should acknowledge his catastrophic failure on this anniversary and take steps to initiate a restructuring of Nigeria by proposing a bill to the National Assembly based on the 1963 Constitution.
It is evident that Nigeria is in a state of collapse."
