The automobile regulator disclosed this through a statement on its LinkedIn account, noting that the partnership would be a significant step towards decarbonising Nigeria’s public transport system and embracing sustainable transportation solutions, particularly by adopting hydrogen-powered vehicles.
The Executive Vice President at Oando Clean Energy, Ademola Ogumbanjo, clarified the urgency of transitioning towards renewable energy sources to strengthen energy security in Africa.
He revealed that Oando Clean Energy’s research efforts, concluding with a sustainable transport project design, aimed at alleviating Nigeria’s energy challenges while propelling economic growth.
The Director-General of NADDC, Joseph Osanipin, expressed appreciation for the initiative, stressing that the collaboration would address pressing environmental concerns and advance the automotive industry within Africa.
Osanipin emphasised the need for synergy between NADDC, OANDO Clean Energy, and other relevant stakeholders to stimulate the widespread adoption and implementation of electric vehicle technology in Nigeria’s public transportation network.
He said that, in turn, would elevate the economy through the growth of the automotive sector.
