Entertainer and stuntman MrBeast has ended the long-running competition to have the most subscribers on YouTube, surpassing T-Series at the top.
For five years, Indian music company T-Series—which posts trailers and music videos—held the title of largest YouTube channel. However, MrBeast, real name Jimmy Donaldson, overtook it on Sunday.
With almost 800 videos, MrBeast has gained notoriety for his outrageous pranks, including burying himself alive, giving away private islands, and performing a live version of the popular Netflix series Squid Game.
MrBeast claimed to have "avenged" Felix Kjellberg, a.k.a. PewDiePie, the popular YouTuber, by exceeding T-Series' 266 million subscribers in a post on X.
He also claimed in a different post that his channel set a record with its biggest-ever daily surge in subscribers on Saturday, with a gain of almost 2 million.
With tens of millions of members, MrBeast also has multiple additional channels devoted to his gaming, charity, and comments on other content.
"Do not email me asking for money, I give away money because it makes me happy," his channel's description tells viewers, referring to the cash - measured in the millions - he has distributed during his YouTube career.
A video he posted in April saw one person win $250,000 (£196,000). In 2022, Forbes estimated his net worth to be around $500m, ranking him first on its list of the 50 top creators in 2023.
