After spending five days in the kidnappers' den, Mrs. Gloria Izonfuo, the federal commissioner of the National Population Commission (NPC) for Bayelsa State, was freed.
Recall that Izonfuo was at the Ogbakiri intersection of the East-West Road on Sunday evening with her maid and driver. Grace Iringe-Koko, a spokeswoman for the Rivers State Police Command, who confirmed the woman's release, stated:
"Yes, she was released on Friday, along with her driver and maid, and they have now been reunited with their families."
Iringe-Koko added, "We're still investigating with a view to apprehending the kidnappers," but she refused to reveal whether or not a ransom was paid to ensure Mrs. Izonfuo's release.
