The Chairman of the Investments and Securities Tribunal (IST), Amos Azi, has stated that only three institutions in the Nigerian capital market currently provide support to the Tribunal.
Azi made these remarks in Abuja during a courtesy visit by the executives of the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers (CIS).
He emphasized the importance of protecting, supporting, and promoting the IST due to its crucial role in enhancing investor confidence in the Nigerian capital market.
Furthermore, Azi highlighted that since its establishment, no judgments of the Tribunal had been overturned due to incorrect assessment of facts.
He also noted that individuals, with or without legal representation, could seek assistance from the Tribunal regarding market infractions.
Azi urged institutions in the capital market to back the Tribunal, emphasizing its significant contribution to boosting investor confidence.
In response, the President of the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers (CIS), Oluropo Dada, expressed willingness to collaborate with IST on local and international staff training as a nominating body on the board of IST.
Dada explained that the purpose of the visit was to introduce the institute's new executives to the Tribunal's leadership and to establish a mutually beneficial relationship between IST and the CIS.
The visit concluded with the presentation of a book titled ‘History of the Nigerian Capital Market’ authored by the Institute to the Chairman of IST.
