The Housing Development Advocacy Network (HDAN) has emphasized the need for the Federal Government to tackle the housing deficit.
In a statement issued by Executive Director Festus Adebayo, the organization expressed concern over the global inadequate shelter situation.
Referring to a 2024 Habitat for Humanity report, it was noted that 1.53 billion people worldwide are living in substandard housing, with Nigeria having the highest number at 25 million, followed by India at 18 million.
Adebayo highlighted the ineffective implementation of Nigeria's housing policy, leading to a rise in poverty and homelessness without any tangible solutions in sight.
Adebayo emphasized that the housing crisis is a worldwide problem and highlighted the varying effectiveness of government responses.
He urged governments to prioritize ensuring that people can live with dignity.
