The Deputy President of the Senate and Chairman of the Senate Committee on the Review of the Constitution, Senator Barau Jibrin, emphasised the need for strong collaboration among stakeholders to successfully conclude the ongoing constitution amendment process.
Speaking in Abuja at the joint retreat of the secretariat and consultants to the Senate and the House of Representatives committees on reviewing the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999.
Barau praised the cooperation between the constitution review secretariat and consultants to the Senate and House of Representatives committees, stating that it would create harmony in their work.
He assured that the National Assembly would conduct a comprehensive review of the constitution by gathering input from Nigerians through public hearings and collecting memoranda from various national interests.
Barau also highlighted the Assembly's intention to engage with state governments, legislatures, and the federal government to achieve consensus on all issues.
He stressed the importance of working together to address the country's challenges and to create a constitution that aligns with the desires and aspirations of the people.
Barau urged for a collaborative effort to achieve a result that promotes peace, justice, and fairness in governing the nation.
