World's Most Expensive Ice Cream Enters Into Guinness World Record Book

POSTED ON May 18, 2023 •   World      BY Akinbohun Samuel •   VIEWS 85

If you fancy tasting the world's most expensive ice cream, you'd better be willing to dig deep because it'll set you back more than a family holiday would.

Japanese ice cream brand Cellato set out to nab the flashy Guinness World Records title, creating a very special dessert made from rare ingredients that sent its price tag through the roof.

A serving of the delicious flagship treat named Byakuya costs a staggering 873,400 Japanese yen (£5,469; $6,696), which would also be enough to buy a secondhand car.

But we're assured by those who've tasted it that it's certainly something to write home about.

The reason for the inflated price is the ingredients, with the highlight being the rare white truffle grown in Alba, Italy, priced at 2 million Japanese yen (nearly £12,000; $15,192) per kg.

Other special ingredients include Parmigiano Reggiano and sake lees.

Making the most expensive ice cream was not Cellato's only goal. They wanted to fuse together European and Japanese ingredients in the form of ice cream. To do this, Cellato brought in Tadayoshi Yamada, the head chef at RiVi, a restaurant in Osaka known for its imaginative fusion cuisine.

Unfortunately, the Guinness World Records team could not sample this gorgeous delight. But according to the staff at Cellato who participated in the tasting session it is rich in taste and texture.

They said the robust fragrance of white truffle fills your mouth and nose, followed by the complex and fruity tastes of Parmigiano Reggiano. Sake lees finish off the glorious taste experience.

"It took us over 1.5 years to develop, with a lot of trials and errors to get the taste right. Achieving a Guinness World Records title made the effort all worth it." - Cellato representative

Although Cellato has achieved a record title, they are not resting on their laurels. They are planning to release products with other combinations of the finest ingredients, such as Champagne and caviar.
