The Federal Government of Nigeria has formally introduced the NIN Authentication Service (NINAuth), a digital identity verification platform created by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).
This initiative aims to simplify and secure access to government services across all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has endorsed and mandated the compulsory use of the NINAuth platform for identity verification processes, reinforcing his Renewed Hope Agenda focused on digital governance and data security.
The NINAuth service provides a wide range of authentication solutions, including web, mobile, and API options, aimed at improving privacy, user control, and service delivery.
Citizens and legal residents can now verify their identity for essential government functions like SIM registration, immigration services, tax submissions, driver's license renewals, and access to government assistance programs.
Head of Corporate Communications at NIMC, Dr. Kayode Adegoke, mentioned, “By mandating that users give explicit consent before their personal data is shared, NINAuth fosters transparency and empowers individuals to manage their information.”
The NIMC has stressed that the NINAuth application will serve as the sole platform for all NIN-based authentication moving forward, enabling real-time verification and adherence to national identity regulations.
This initiative is anticipated to enhance Nigeria’s digital identity infrastructure, promote data unification among MDAs, and facilitate a more inclusive and effective public service delivery system.
