LAGOS, Nigeria - The Lagos State Government has entered into a waste management and processing concession agreement with the Ghanaian firm, Jospong Group of Companies, as part of its initiative for a cleaner Lagos and to tackle waste disposal issues.
The agreement was finalized on Monday at Alausa, Ikeja, by the state Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Lawal Pedro, SAN, alongside the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab.
Representing Jospong Group was its Executive Chairman, Joseph Siaw Agyepong. During the event, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu referred to the partnership as a crucial move toward creating a cleaner and healthier Lagos.
“We are eager to learn from the Ghanaian experience. This agreement aims to not only eliminate waste in Lagos but also generate thousands of job opportunities and transfer essential technology to Nigerians,” the governor stated.
Wahab highlighted that Jospong Group was selected after a comprehensive evaluation of its proposal, technical know-how, and the feasibility of expected outcomes.
Agyepong expressed his appreciation for Sanwo-Olu’s leadership and pledged full dedication to the project, which is expected to be completed within 18 months. It will involve the establishment of two waste transfer stations and additional recycling facilities.
He mentioned that the initiative is anticipated to create around 5,000 direct and indirect jobs while ensuring the transfer of waste management technology to Nigeria.
"We will fully commit to the timeline of this partnership. This is a proven relationship, and we are confident that our skills and expertise will be effective here in Lagos,” he assured.
