LAGOS, Nigeria - The Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, has called on education stakeholders to revamp the curriculum of secondary schools, emphasising the importance of preparing future leaders for the challenges that lie ahead.
He made this statement during the 80th Anniversary of Olivet Baptist High School held in Oyo State.
He expressed, “To equip leaders capable of navigating the future, we need to restructure the curriculum, the learning environment, and the expectations of secondary education. We must rethink, reimagine, and reinvest.”
Hamzat pointed out that secondary education is not simply a transitional period in students’ educational journeys; rather, it serves as a foundational training ground for leadership where minds are formed, visions are developed, and characters are shaped.
Discussing the significance of secondary education in cultivating future leaders, Hamzat remarked that no country can excel beyond the quality of its education, and no generation can overcome the leadership challenges posed by its youth.
To transform secondary schools into a nurturing environment for future leaders, he urged the private sector, development partners, community leaders, and other education stakeholders to unite with the vision of a secondary education system where classrooms transform into hubs for leadership development.
“Let us all commit educators, parents, the government, private sector participants, and alumni to making our secondary schools the launchpad for Nigeria’s resurgence,” Hamzat concluded.
