The Lagos State Government has issued a warning to the state's entertainment venues against the sale and distribution of counterfeit beverages.
The warning was sent by the governor's special advisor on tourism, arts, and culture, Idris Aregbe, on his Instagram profile.
Aregbe stated that this was done in reaction to growing worries about fake beverages being served in bars and eateries around the state.
His administration has stepped up and coordinated its efforts to remove inferior items from circulation since, in his opinion, the widespread availability of imitation drinks poses a serious risk to public health and safety.
“We call upon all clubs, restaurants, and public places where drinks are sold to exercise due diligence in ensuring they do not purchase or serve fake drinks to unsuspecting consumers,” he said.
According to reports, Aregbe promised the people that a thorough effort would be made to remove counterfeit beverages from the market.
He declared that the state will work with Ononiwu Ezeribe, Director of Investigation and Enforcement for the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, and Lanre Mojola, the head of the Lagos State Safety Commission.
He issued a warning, stating that any event or entertainment space discovered to be serving or selling counterfeit beverages would be forced to close right away and have their license suspended.
