Kremlin Condemns British And Us Strikes In Yemen

POSTED ON January 12, 2024 •   World      BY Segun Adewole

In response to the recent British and US strikes on Houthi rebels in Yemen, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov voiced condemnation, asserting that the military actions were considered illegitimate under international law.

"We condemn them," Peskov stated, emphasizing the Kremlin's disapproval of the strikes that targeted Houthi rebels. He further underscored the viewpoint that, from an international legal perspective, these military interventions were deemed illegitimate.

The strikes by the US and British forces were conducted in retaliation to Huthi attacks on ships believed to be linked to Israel in the Red Sea. The geopolitical tensions in the region have escalated, leading to a cycle of military responses.

Addressing the ongoing situation, the Kremlin spokesperson highlighted Russia's persistent calls for the Huthis to cease such actions, deeming them highly inappropriate. The repeated appeals from Moscow aimed to discourage the Huthis from engaging in activities that could escalate regional conflicts.

The condemnation from the Kremlin adds a significant diplomatic dimension to the evolving scenario, shedding light on the complexities and differing perspectives surrounding the conflict in Yemen. The emphasis on the illegitimacy of the strikes underscores the importance the Kremlin places on adhering to international legal norms in addressing regional conflicts.

As global attention remains focused on the Yemeni crisis, the Kremlin's stance amplifies the diplomatic challenges surrounding the situation, emphasizing the need for multilateral efforts to find a sustainable resolution to the conflict.
