Israeli police announced on Thursday the arrest of two individuals in east Jerusalem, identified as Palestinian supporters of the Islamic State (IS), for their involvement in planning "terrorist attacks" against the country's security forces.
According to a statement released by the police, the arrested individuals had devised plans to create explosive devices with the intent of targeting security forces. The statement revealed that the two suspects were residents of east Jerusalem and had actively supported the ideology of the Islamic State group, consuming content related to the extremist organization through the internet and messaging platform Telegram. The content included videos depicting killings carried out by the group abroad.
"Influenced by the content of the organization, the two planned to carry out terrorist attacks against police officers and the border police force," the statement explained.
The arrests highlight the ongoing challenges faced by Israeli authorities in countering potential threats posed by extremist ideologies and individuals sympathetic to terrorist organizations. The individuals in question had not only embraced the ideology of the Islamic State group but also sought to translate their beliefs into concrete plans for violence against law enforcement.
This development underscores the importance of vigilance and proactive measures in addressing the radicalization of individuals and preventing potential acts of terrorism. Israeli security forces remain engaged in efforts to thwart such threats and maintain the safety and security of the nation.
