Nollywood actress Halima Abubakar has slammed a lawsuit against Emeka Rollas, president of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN).
Following her suspension, the actress requested N30 billion from Rollas via his social media page.
Rocket Parrot News reports that Abubakar was suspended for allegedly defaming Nollywood.
In response to the charges, the actress stated that she had never been contacted or allowed to reply to the claims before the announcement.
In a letter dated October 20, 2024, Abubakar's legal representative, P.D. Pius & Associates, accused the AGN President of purposely damaging her name.
Her lawyers said, “Our client has been battling health issues for years, and despite maintaining a professional relationship, you chose this delicate moment during her recovery to spread a false narrative. This has caused her emotional distress and harmed her reputation in society.”
The lawyers further demanded immediate removal of the defamatory publication on Rollas’ Instagram page with an unreserved public apology and N30 billion in damages for reputational harm.
The letter concluded with a warning: “Unless these demands are met in seven days, our client has instructed us to pursue appropriate legal action.”
The seasoned actress had revealed her struggle with a mysterious illness and described how her deteriorating health had felt like a punishment, adding that she believed it was a lesson from God.
She expressed deep gratitude to those who have supported her without judgment, acknowledging that the illness had been a challenging journey that helped her appreciate life more.
