The Federal Government has acquired 70 hybrid Jet Mover buses from Jet Motor Company to improve the country's transportation system.
The Nigerian automaker announced this in a statement on Monday.
The buses, which run on compressed natural gas and gasoline, are expected to provide affordable and comfortable transportation for Nigerians.
The handover ceremony took place at Jet Motor Company's plant in Ajah, Lagos State, and was attended by officials from the Ministry of Finance and representatives of the Presidential Initiative for Compressed Natural Gas.
The Technical Assistant to the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, Dimas Hamidu, praised the high quality of the vehicles and commended the company for its excellent work.
He stated that the hybrid vehicles were a testament to President Bola Tinubu's administration's commitment to alleviating the hardships caused by the removal of fuel subsidies.
According to Hamidu, the vehicles will significantly contribute to addressing the transportation needs of the citizens and help mitigate the impact of rising costs on the economy.
He said, “I am happy with what I have seen here. This will go a long way in alleviating the pain and suffering of the people with the removal of fuel subsidy.
"The Minister of Finance visited the plant earlier and was impressed after driving one of the vehicles.
"The Federal Government has awarded contracts to different companies to deliver a number of CNG vehicles, but Nigerians have been asking why they haven't seen these vehicles on the road.
"The Ministry of Finance decided to tour the factories to see how soon the vehicles could be delivered.
"They were impressed with Jet Motor Company for adhering to the contract terms, and the vehicles meet the specifications.
"The government hopes to be invited again to take delivery of more vehicles that the president can use to address the country's transportation challenges."
The Jet Motor Company's Managing Director thanked the team and explained the features of the hybrid vehicles, including their CNG and petrol tanks, range, and engine capabilities.
