Despite being granted bail, Nwoba Chika, the spokesperson of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State, is still being held in Abakaliki Correctional Centre.
Recall that Nwoba's troubles began in February when he alleged that the Ebonyi State Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Oguzor Offia-Nwali, had misappropriated N3 million intended for empowerment.
As a result of these accusations, Nwoba was arrested in February after the Commissioner, Oguzor Offia-Nwali, submitted a petition.
Oguzor Offia-Nwali has accused Mr Nwoba of defaming him, making threats against his life, and falsely alleging that he committed fraud and misappropriated state government funds intended for the support of small-scale traders in the state, all through a series of Facebook posts.
After spending two months in prison, the Governor of Ebonyi State, Francis Nwifuru, made a plea for Offia-Nwali to show mercy and consider dropping the case against Chika Nwoba during a church service last Sunday.
Subsequently, a court in Abakaliki, the capital of Ebonyi State, granted bail following a bail application.
However, despite the Governor's plea and the court's decision to grant bail, Nwoba remains in custody at the time of this report.
