The Lagos State Internal Revenue Services has collaborated with DKK Nigeria to organize a debate competition with the aim of educating children about the significance of paying taxes.
Bukola Thomas, the Chief Operating Officer of DKK Nigeria, mentioned during a recent debate in Lagos that the event is designed to educate children on tax matters and raise awareness among the youth in society.
She explained that the Tax Trybe, which is a club created to instill a tax culture in secondary school students, held its inaugural edition using a debate format to address tax issues.
The goal is to increase the number of participating schools from 20 to 60 by the end of next year and eventually expand to other cities.
Thomas emphasized that the program also aims to develop socially conscious and responsible adults, fostering a sense of ownership and responsibility within Nigeria.
The Director of Informal Sector and Special Duties at LIRS, Dr. Folashade Coker, also expressed enthusiasm for the Tax Trybe initiative, highlighting the importance of educating children at a young age.
