The Chief Imam of Ajiyobiojo Central Mosque in Ilorin, Kwara State, Saheed Ajiyobiojo, has urged Muslim men to assist their wives with household tasks during the month of Ramadan.
He shared this advice in an interview in Ilorin on Saturday, emphasizing that husbands should not merely observe their wives as they carry out chores but should actively help to alleviate their stress.
He noted that many men adopt an indifferent attitude towards their wives during the fasting period, failing to provide the necessary support to help their spouses cope.
Ajiyobiojo stated, “Do not leave all the responsibilities to her. You can offer assistance to uplift her morale and help her manage the fasting challenge. The Ramadan period is often hectic for women. Men should be considerate and assist with some domestic duties. In addition to waking her up for meal preparation, you can support her emotionally and physically by caring for the children.”
He also encouraged men to consistently acknowledge and appreciate their wives during the fasting period instead of criticizing their efforts.
Moreover, he cautioned women against taking for granted the support they receive from their husbands during Ramadan, urging them to express gratitude for even the smallest gestures of help.
He advised, “As a wife, when your husband offers assistance during this fasting time, express your appreciation and do not exploit the situation. Do not take it for granted in hopes of receiving more help from him.”
Furthermore, he encouraged followers and communities to approach fasting with seriousness, as prescribed by Allah, and to use the Ramadan season as an opportunity to seek Allah's grace and favor, which, he asserted, will come easily in the end.
The chief imam also called on clerics to exemplify their teachings through actions, advocating that they should not just be messengers but also practitioners of their words.
Ajiyobiojo urged Islamic scholars to embody the principles they articulate rather than merely serve as spokespersons.
