Former BBNaija winner, Mercy Eke has spoken out about her defeat on the All-stars edition of the reality show.
She explained why she believes she fell short of achieving victory for the second time.
In an exclusive interview with Celebrity Quickies, hosted by comedian AY on his YouTube channel, the 2019 'Pepper Dem' season champion discussed the surprising turn of events in the All-Stars edition, where she lost to 22-year-old Ilebaye in 2023.
Mercy Eke claimed that the public's apparent antipathy to winners trying a comeback played a significant role in her failure.
According to her, there was a shift in public attitude, with some individuals expressing doubts about her participation in the All-Star game because of her prior success.
She said“The first time, I went into the Big Brother House, it was all cute, lovely people. I played the game and I won the show. And I thought it was all cute, then I went back for the second time, and I found out that people were allergic to winners,” Mercy said during the interview.
She remarked on the reactions she had during the All-Stars edition, when some members of the crowd looked hesitant to support her bid for a second title.
Mercy stated that some thought she had already attained success and should give others an opportunity.
She added “They were like, ‘She had that, she can’t have it again. She has this, she can’t have it again.’ That’s why I did not win for the second time because they are allergic to winners. They were like, ‘She is already rich, give others a chance.
“This second experience, I loved it. I will not even take anything away from it because it made me see people for who they truly are. It can only be God’s doing because without this second experience, I would not know a lot of things. I didn’t know that it is a crime to want to win again. But anyways, I am still a winner,"
