Schneider Electric on Tuesday is set to reveal its microgrid solution called Villaya Flex, a pre-packaged microgrid solution created for communities to generate independent electricity and promote a decarbonized environment.
This clean energy solution, designed to address current energy challenges and reduce pollution from genset usage, will be unveiled at the Alliance for Rural Electrification Energy Access Investment Forum in Lagos, Nigeria, from May 21-23, 2024.
This forum aims to bring together private and public sector stakeholders to improve energy access, specifically focusing on sub-Saharan Africa. According to the International Energy Agency, an estimated 756 million people live without electricity access.
Bala Vinayagam, the Senior Vice President of Schneider Electric's Microgrid Line of Business, stated, "Villaya Flex is a renewable energy solution that offers a more sustainable and cost-effective option for off-grid communities to access energy. It is specifically designed for off-grid communities and remote villages that face energy shortages, limited electricity access, and high fuel costs." This solution can be easily sized, ordered, commissioned, operated, and maintained, with high scalability in battery storage.
Ajibola Akindele, the Country President of West Africa at Schneider Electric, mentioned that the company will actively participate in advancing investments for renewable electrification, sustainable electricity access, climate action, and addressing energy skills challenges. Additionally, through this event, the company aims to explore opportunities to collaborate with both private and public sectors to drive a sustainable and inclusive energy transition, ensuring sustainable access to the future for all.
During the event, Schneider Electric will also present various innovative solutions to expand energy access. Its experts will discuss key topics such as catalyzing investments for renewable electrification, decentralizing the renewable energy sector, and accelerating the clean energy transition.
Schneider aims to broaden its range of products and solutions to support the achievement of the UN's goal of universal access to energy by 2030. Since its establishment in 2009, the Access to Energy program has set a target to provide clean and dependable energy to 50 million people worldwide by 2025.
