Oman Condemns Us, Uk Strikes In Yemen, Fears Escalation

POSTED ON January 12, 2024 •   World      BY Segun Adewole •   VIEWS 50

Oman, a key mediator in the ongoing efforts to resolve Yemen's protracted civil war, has strongly criticized the recent American and British strikes on Huthi rebel military targets in Yemen. The strikes, which the Huthis claim resulted in five casualties, have raised concerns about the potential for an escalation of conflict in the region.

Expressing its apprehension, Oman's foreign ministry spokesman, as reported by official media, emphasized the sultanate's condemnation of military actions by friendly nations. Notably, Oman drew a parallel between the strikes in Yemen and Israel's military campaign against Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

"Oman has consistently warned about the risk of the conflict spreading in the region, citing the ongoing Israeli aggression against Palestinian territories," the statement read.

Oman's condemnation of the strikes underscores its commitment to diplomatic solutions and its active role as a mediator in the Yemeni conflict. The sultanate's concern about the broader implications of military actions aligns with its ongoing efforts to promote peace and stability in the turbulent Middle East.

As the situation unfolds, Oman's stance highlights the delicate geopolitical dynamics at play and the intricate web of relationships that influence the trajectory of conflicts in the region. The condemnation serves as a reminder of the intricate balance that must be maintained to prevent further destabilization in the already volatile Middle East.
