Fubara Harps on Obedience to Presidential Peace Accord

Siminalayi Fubara, the Governor of Rivers State, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Former River state Govornor, Nyesom Wike

Siminalayi Fubara, the Governor of Rivers State, has clarified that President Bola Tinubu's intervention in the dispute between him and his estranged political godfather, Nyesom Wike, was political rather than constitutional.

Out of respect for the President, he said that he was dedicated to carrying out the eight-point settlement that was agreed during the mediation meeting with Tinubu in Abuja last October.

But he cautioned that he would shock those who saw his sincere choice to carry out the presidential peace accord as a show of weakness.

Fubara stated that he had been deluged with numerous remarks regarding the execution of the peace initiative in the media and that he had made the mature and wise decision to remain silent.

In a statement issued in Port Harcourt, on Wednesday, Fubara’s Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chulwudi.

Fubara said that he had commenced the implementation of the agreement out of respect for President Tinubu.

The statement by the government comes in the wake of the renewed threat of impeachment against Fubara by 27 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly loyal to ex-governor Nyesom Wike.

Fubara said in the statement, “What is happening here in our dear state is about somebody who has respect for an elder.

“Mr President invited all the parties to Abuja and came out with a resolution that we should go and implement. That resolution, I am implementing it. It is not a constitutional implementation. It is a political solution to a problem.

“And I am doing it out of the respect I have for Mr President. But, let me say it here, if that action that I have accepted to take is seen as a weakness, I will surprise them. I want this message to go to them.”

The governor urged the people to continue to support his administration, show understanding over actions taken, and peacefully obey the rules.
