Nigerians can now pay with Naira on Google Playstore.
This development comes as a result of Google's collaboration with Verve, the largest domestic card scheme in Africa, aiming to make digital transactions more accessible and convenient for Nigerians using Naira.
Starting today, 26th of July, 2023, Nigerians can make purchases in Niara on Google using their Verve cards.
This announcement comes as a relief for Nigerian users who have been facing challenges with their banks in meeting forex demands for international payments when buying apps from the Google Store.
Under the new arrangement, Google will process Verve transactions within Nigeria, ensuring that the payments are conducted in Nigerian Naira (NG) and treated as local transactions by the country's banking institutions.
As a result, any Nigerian with an Android device and a Verve card now has a seamless method to make purchases on the Google Play Store.
Anthea Crawford, Head of Retail and Payment Partnerships at Google Play expressed her enthusiasm for the collaboration with Verve, which expands Google Play access for more Nigerians.
She highlighted the introduction of local payments with Verve cards as a significant milestone, enabling broader participation in the app economy and granting access to essential apps for Nigerian users.
Vincent Ogbunude, the Managing Director of Verve International, emphasized that the integration with Google Play marks a crucial step towards Verve's vision of promoting financial inclusion.
By bringing digital content and services closer to Verve cardholders, Verve aims to bridge the digital divide and extend the reach of digital services to a larger segment of the Nigerian population.
Ogbunude also highlighted that users can now add their Verve Cards to their Google Play Account and pay in Naira without any hassle.
The partnership between Google and Verve simplifies the payment process for Google Play Store apps and services, significantly contributing to a more inclusive digital environment for Nigerians.
With this development, users can embrace a seamless and localized payment experience, making digital content and services more accessible to all Nigerians.
