Usman Alkali Baba, the IGP, issued a warning to politicians and political parties while asserting that the May 29 inauguration date is still sacred.
The police chief issued the warning on Monday, May 15, stating that they have been coordinating closely with the national intelligence community to prevent any occurrence that would jeopardize the security of the nation.
He stated:
"Since the 2023 General Elections were successfully concluded, it has been noted that several significant political figures who were not pleased with the results have been making public threats to sabotage the Presidential Inauguration on May 29, 2023.
"The activities of these political elites as well as other groups that have organized themselves into disloyal brands and whose main fantasy in recent years has been to undermine our national security interests have been closely monitored by the Nigeria Police and the national intelligence community.
"In doing so, they appear determined to employ extralegal and undemocratic means to truncate our democratic heritage in support of their limited personal political considerations."
