Gbenga Okotore, a chief, was assassinated by gunmen believed to be assassins in the Okutu-Ope community of Ilesa, Osun state.
Okotore was reportedly shot by the attackers at close range.
The armed guys allegedly shot randomly into the air before killing their victim, according to the Nigerian Tribune.
Adekunle Adegbola, a local who went by that name, claimed that the entire neighborhood had been plunged into sadness and speculated that the victim may have been followed to the location where he was killed.
He claimed that when the incident occurred, they heard the sound of gunshots but were unable to approach the scene for fear of becoming casualties themselves.
On Thursday, March 16, 2023, the command's spokeswoman, SP Yemisi Opalola, confirmed the incident and promised to find those responsible.
"Okotore was a chief and a prominent member of the community. The investigation into the event has begun, and the PPRO declared that those responsible will not escape punishment.
She continued by saying that a team of detectives had started looking into the situation and that soon the perpetrators of the heinous deed would be apprehended and would not escape punishment.
