A group of civil society organizations in the north have demanded that Mr. Abdulrasheed Bawa, the head of the EFCC, step down or be sacked due to suspicions of corruption.
Abdulrasheed Bawa's resignation at this time is sacred in order to preserve Nigeria's name, said Adamu Aminu Musa, chairman of the Coalition of Arewa Civil Society Organizations, in a statement on Sunday.
"The fourth executive chairman, Mr. Bawa, has been at the center of so many corruption allegations even before his appointment as the chairman," the statement claimed. "His appointment as the chairman was believed to be surrounded by so many controversies and mysteries."
The statement went on to say that Bawa rules like an emperor, using his position to coerce banks, other government organizations, and defenseless Nigerians into doing what he wants, all with the support of his godfather, the Attorney General.
Additionally, according to Adamu Aminu, Bawa compelled the director general of NIMASA to support his family members' international studies at the Centurion University of Technology and Management in Bhubaneswar, India.
He said that the EFCC chairman used threats and intimidation to pressure the NCC into hiring his older brother while he himself worked for the EFCC's Lagos Command and recruited a different member of his family.
