Hollywood actors, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's daughter has officially been granted a name change.
On Monday, August 19, the former couple's 18-year-old daughter, Shiloh Nouvel Jolie, discarded Pitt's surname in favor of her own.
Shiloh, who turned 18 on May 27, submitted a petition to formally remove "Pitt" from her name on May 30, according to court records.
The reason behind her desire to change her name remains unknown.
Shiloh published a legal notice in the Los Angeles Times for many weeks in July proposing to alter her name from Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt to Shiloh Nouvel Jolie.
The legal notice was issued under California law, which requires anyone asking to change their last name to post a show cause form in a newspaper at least four weeks before the court's date to avoid a delay in the procedure.
Shiloh's name change occurred eight years after Angelina Jolie filed for divorce from Pitt in 2016.
They were pronounced legally single by a judge in 2019, but their divorce has not been completed. They are also the parents of Maddox, 22, Pax, 20, Zahara, 19, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 16.
Over the years, the actors have been involved in legal disputes over custody of their children, as well as arguments over their shared economic interests and assets, including a French winery.
