The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority has terminated the employment of six officials for gross misconduct.

The termination according to the agency is in line with the directives of the Lagos State Civil Service Commission, following recommendations by the Personnel Management Board.

According to a statement signed by the Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Adebayo Taofiq, the General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, affirmed that the Lagos State Civil Service Commission had fully endorsed the Personnel Management Board’s recommendations regarding severe misconduct and general inefficiencies.

Oki confirmed that the disciplinary actions were rigorously implemented in accordance with the Lagos State Civil Service Rules and Regulations.

He reiterated LASTMA’s commitment to enhancing its operations while calling on residents to actively engage with the agency by providing both positive feedback and reports of any observed misconduct, along with relevant evidence.

“I wish to inform the general public that this is an ongoing exercise aimed at purging the agency of errant officers. Another Personnel Management Board session will be convened shortly to address additional indicted LASTMA officials,” Oki added.

The General Manager also urged road users in Lagos to strictly comply with traffic regulations, warning that violations would attract penalties, including fines, as enforced by the Lagos Mobile Courts in accordance with legal provisions.

While assuring the motoring public of their civil rights protection on Lagos roads, he urged all motorists to comply with the Lagos State Transportation Sector Reform Law of 2018.

Recall that the agency had in May, cautioned officers against corrupt practices while discharging their duties across various areas in the state.

He said, “Any of our men caught in any illicit act, especially accepting bribes from citizens, will face disciplinary action, and they know the outcome is not palatable.”
