The National Population Commission (NPC) has stated that although a new date for the National Census has not yet been determined, the Federal Government would handle it.
Prior to the country's Population and Housing Census in 2023, NPC said its main concern is making sure that all resources used are secured.
This was said by Mr. Darlington Okereke, the NPC's Federal Commissioner for Ebonyi, on Friday morning during a breakfast meeting for media executives in Abakaliki.
Okereke said that the safety measure was required to prevent having to restart planning when a new date was set.
He said, "We also came together to inform you of the next steps forward in light of the postponement of the conduct by the former President."
The Commissioner added that it has completed all of the preliminary tasks associated with the census exercise, including the Enumeration Area Demarcation (EAD), pre-testing, and conducting a trial census, among other things.
"We have engaged in activities such as hiring and educating census field workers, purchasing and setting up Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs), establishing ICT infrastructures and logistics support, and engaging in lobbying and public relations work.
"The most crucial responsibility of the commission is to continue and emphasize the importance of these actions for the smooth operation of the census in 2023.
"This will guarantee that the nation won't have to restart the preparations, saving money.
"The Commission has established a strong framework for future censuses," according to Okereke.
