The Ministry of Arts, Culture, and the Creative Economy and the Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG) have come together to establish a plan for funding the growth of the creative industry.
This partnership aims to rejuvenate the sector, tap into its immense potential, and make a significant contribution to Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product of $100 billion by 2030, while also creating two million jobs by 2027.
Minister Barrister Hannatu Musa Musawa expressed confidence that this collaboration will unlock the full potential of Nigeria’s creative industry, making it a substantial contributor to the nation’s economy and a major source of revenue.
The Minister also highlighted the joint efforts to develop a strong governance structure for the art, culture, and creative industries, building on the foundation laid in the draft Cultural Policy.
This policy is designed to promote cultural integration, preserve national values, and safeguard Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage, while also outlining clear objectives and strategies to enhance cultural development, language preservation, historiography, and the promotion of cultural diversity and inclusivity.
Minister Musawa further stated that the Ministry and NESG have worked together to outline a comprehensive national policy on the creative economy, which will provide strategic direction, set key objectives, and establish regulatory mechanisms to foster growth, innovation, and sustainability within the sector.
Once approved, this policy will be presented to the appropriate authorities for implementation.
