Alhassan Ado Doguwa, the majority leader of the House of Representatives, has been exonerated of murder charges, according to reports from the police and the Kano State Ministry of Justice's Department of Public Prosecution, DPP.
According to the reports, there is insufficient evidence in the police case files to convict him of culpable homicide.
On Thursday, Kano State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice Musa A. Lawan informed journalists of the government's findings and legal advice regarding the criminal charges brought against the lawmaker, saying that despite contradictory statements made by witnesses against the suspect, there was insufficient evidence in the police case diary to link Doguwa to the alleged offenses.
"Based on the aforementioned information, we believe that Doguwa is not guilty of the counts of criminal conspiracy, mischief by fire, and culpable homicide.
"This is because, despite the fact that there is a wealth of evidence both incriminating and exonerating him, we were unable to connect enough of it to the aforementioned offenses. Furthermore, individuals who accused him made contradictory comments," he claimed.
Barr. Lawan continued that, aside from the conflicting statements, there was no medical proof that Doguwa's actions or inactions contributed to the deaths of the deceased.
