KOGI, Nigeria -The Kogi State Judicial Commission, committed to eradicating unlawful practices within the judiciary, has instructed area court judge Bamidele Alemeru to resign immediately after discovering his involvement in unethical conduct.
Additionally, magistrate Tanimu Mohammed has been suspended due to allegations of irregularities while fulfilling his duties in court.
The disciplinary actions were revealed by Tanko Mohammed, the Secretary of the state's judicial service commission, during a gathering in Lokoja, the capital of Kogi state, yesterday.
In his address, Mohammed stated that the sanctions imposed on the two judges were part of the commission's efforts to eliminate irregularities from the court system and restore public confidence in the judiciary.
He explained that Alemeru was found to have committed misconduct by purchasing a building involved in litigation before him and subsequently ordered its sale despite not having completed payment for the disputed property.
To obfuscate his actions, Alemeru issued an injunction regarding the property without consulting either party involved in the case beforehand.
Nevertheless, the commission has reinstated four magistrates after investigations revealed they were wrongfully accused of misconduct.
The reinstated magistrates are Abdul Musa, Yunusa Medugu, Deborah Ebiloma, and Anuhi Oiza.
The commission has urged all judges and magistrates to refrain from engaging in misconduct to promote further advancements in the judicial system.
