The Bayelsa State House of Assembly has approved the request by Governor Douye Diri to appoint 24 special advisers.
The assembly’s approval was in line with the letter sent to the legislature by the governor seeking approval for the appointment of the aides.
The letter was titled, ‘Request for approval for the appointment of Special Advisers.’
Names were not attached to the letter which was read on the floor of the assembly by the Clerk of the House, Adogu Kent, during Tuesday's plenary presided over by the Speaker, Abraham Ingobere.
The letter reads: “I write to seek the approval of the House of Assembly for the appointment of 24 Special Advisers to the Governor.
“The purpose of the appointment is for effective governance and fulfilment of the vision of the prosperity of the state.
“It is by the provision of Section 196 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, as amended.”
The member representing Southern Ijaw Constituency 2, Edwin Bubou-Obolo, moved the motion for the assembly’s approval of the governor’s request, which was seconded by his Southern Ijaw Constituency 3 counterpart, Marlon Moses.
The Assembly affirmed that the approval was vital to provide legislative support to the government.
