To involve senior adults nationwide, the federal government has launched an online platform.
The site is known as the Continuing Engagement Bureau (CEB), according to Dr. Emem Omokaro, Director-General of the National Senior Citizens Centre (NSCC), who announced this in Abuja.
According to Omokaro, the platform was developed to gather information on retired professionals and public officials, among other groups, in order to connect them with governmental or nonprofit organizations that may benefit from their depth of expertise.
"It is also important to educate and inspire seniors, the private sector, and the general public to seize the potential this project presents for collaborations on job creation and labor market access," according to Omokaro.
She claimed that the initiative primarily targets older persons who are former working adults.
"This will also include specialists and practitioners from a variety of sectors who continue to uphold the torch and have a desire for using their knowledge, expertise, and wealth to benefit their communities.
"It also has provisions for older farmers and artisans, both rural and urban, who would be encouraged to sign up on the cooperatives portal and be connected with opportunities for productive activities and markets," she added.
The director-general claims that the NSCC is especially thrilled with the CEB program since it is made to allow elderly adults with various intrinsic talents to continue taking part in activities they have good reason to cherish.
She claimed that the initiative will improve older adults' access to the workforce as well as give them a platform for interaction and possibilities for lifelong learning, particularly in ICT, while boosting their income and lowering their rates of poverty, unemployment, and loneliness.
NSCC consultant Dr. Emeka Okengwu described the event as one of the center's hallmark programs and said it was designed to provide a platform for gathering, using, and leveraging the skills, talents, and resources of retirees.
In addition, the platform, according to Okengwu, would help people find ways to leverage their expertise and abilities for future beneficial and meaningful contributions to society through paid or volunteer work.
