Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the president-elect of Nigeria, has received congratulations from Volodymyr Zelensky, the president of Ukraine, for winning the election.
At the same time, Zelensky extended an official invitation for him to travel to his war-torn nation of Ukraine.
The congratulations come two months after the tumultuous presidential election pronounced the former Lagos governor winner.
Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party and Peter Obi of the Labour Party, who received 6,984,520 and 6,101,533 votes respectively, were defeated by Tinubu, who received 8,794,726 votes.
Zelenskyy thanked Tinubu for winning in his letter of congratulations and added that his war-torn nation is determined to further strengthen its relationship with Nigeria.
The president of Ukraine also took advantage of the occasion to invite the president-elect to pay a state visit to his country following his inauguration on May 29.
"Please accept my heartfelt congratulations on your election as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria," he wrote in the letter.
"Despite the extraordinarily trying circumstances brought on by Russia's full-scale armed attack against our state, Ukraine is committed to further deepen its bilateral ties with Nigeria and its participation in international organizations.
"We appreciate your nation's support of the UN General Assembly Resolution titled "UN Charter Principles Underpinning a Comprehensive, Just, and Sustainable Peace in Ukraine.
"I rely on Nigeria's active involvement in its effective implementation. We regard the continued provision of global food security—for which Ukraine was and is still a dependable global guarantor—as a crucial area of cooperation.
The successful implementation of the Ukrainian program "Grain from Ukraine," which aims to greatly boost the supply of grain to African nations in order to prevent famine, will make it easier to complete this task.
"At this time, I kindly offer you to visit Ukraine on an official visit whenever it is most convenient for you.
"I am confident that your visit will enhance communication between our nations and support ongoing efforts by the international community to address urgent challenges of today, particularly the crisis that Russia has triggered with regard to the assurance of global food security."
